3 essential tips to keep in mind while shopping for ultra fine, plush towels

Finest quality Egyptian towels can add a distinctive character to your toiletry and enhance the appeal of your home décor. Fundamental knowledge about the towels will go a long way in choosing authentic products in a scenario where inexpensive knock-off towels are passed on to gullible consumers masquerading them as genuine.

Towel material

Towels are customarily manufactured out of terry cloth. Terry cloth is primarily a pile fabric. It comprises of cut or looped fibre which stick to the adjacent fibre while standing up on the knit or woven material that forms the base. Egyptian or Turkish origin cotton is considered supreme in the towel industry. The long drawn ffibers are conducive to preparing soft, strong and shiny material. The origin of terry cloth can be traced back to Turkey and hence ‘Turkish towel’ is confused with terry cloth.

Recent developments and advancements in the fibre industry have resulted in the pre-eminence of microfiber as the choicest material for making finest grade towels. Microfiber has an edge over silk owing to its superior fineness. It also outshines regular cotton in terms of softness and absorbance. Microfiber is also being increasingly used for making towels owing to its lightweight and excellent absorbent nature.

Gram weight

The term measures the weight of the towel in terms of number of grams each square meter of the towel weighs. Towels which have been manufactured from loops knit densely on the underlying fabric surface will exhibit markedly higher water absorbing capacity and also possess higher gram weight. Towels which feel fluffy are made from longer loops. A nifty towel would weigh 500 grams/ square meter. The luxury towels one generally comes across in hotels have gram weight in the realm of 700 to 800 and this contributes to its luxury style. A towel manufactured out of an inexpensive cotton variety will feel heavier than a plush towel prepared out of high quality cotton or microfiber.

Towel’s color and size

A towel of lighter hue will appear softer. Cotton which has undergone the dyeing process involving exposure to overpowering colour with rich hues are subjected to extensive dyeing process that render the cotton yarns harder than those which have been mildly hued. As the cotton is subjected to repeated washing, the dyes are washed off consequently softening up the towel. Microfiber towels such as the ones made out of modal assimilate dyes easily in a nice manner which keeps the towels with darkest hues comparatively softer. You should exercise due care while washing the towels as subjecting the towels to hot water can ruin the inherent nap structure. Luke warm water is preferred for washing the towels.
The above insights will assist you in making an informed choice while shopping for Egyptian towels.

  1. love the Towel nice !!! I was glad to see it isn't shiny. This was a great price your provide i have a nice thin duvet cover for summer, almost flimsy, and I was even worried it was too delicate to survive a washing. It came out still intact so the quality seems good so far. It looks very lovely and clean on my bed! It is also very soft and cloud-like The zipper is concealed, ties are in the corners, and the feel is soft and sturdy. This seems to be a nice shade and looks to be a good match with what you see in the photo. And attractive color burgundy duvet cover
