Top considerations to factor in while choosing supreme duvet sheets

People often are left wondering about the cornerstone for choosing best duvet covers. Experts opine that the high thread count is critical in selecting the finest Egyptian cotton sheet. However, thread count is only one of the key determinants that form the basis of arriving at the highest quality duvet cover and sheet.

Fibre content

The quality of fibre is one of the fundamental attributes that contribute to superlative sheet formation. Poor and flimsy type fibre can impair the appeal of exotic and vibrant sheets. You should ascertain the type of fibre from which the duvet cover has been prepared i.e. whether it is pima cotton or silk or Egyptian cotton or bamboo.

You should exercise due diligence to pick up sheets that are manufactured completely out of cotton of single ply fibres. The length of fibre is important in the sense that the quality of end product is directly proportional to the length through which the fibre stretches out. 2” fibres are customarily assumed to be the best. Longest fibres are a rarity now a day with manufacturers compromising on the quality of sheets to make easy bucks. You should only purchase duvet covers from stores that have been approved by quality testing agencies to get the best value for your money. Anyways, try to settle for fibres that are more than 1” in length.
It is prudent to shun sheets that are prepared out of fibres 0.5” longer and multiple ply cotton.

Egyptian cotton

Industry gurus converge on the fact that best duvets are manufactured out of Egyptian cotton or pima cotton. Egyptian cotton has an edge over the latter and considered stellar natural fibre for making fine linens, sheets and bedding.

Silk is an exceptional fibre known for its striking softness, glossiness and drape. Nothing can compare with pure silk in terms of softness. However, silk can turn out to be extremely fragile and runs the risk of being damaged while laundering. Silk can be commingled with Egyptian cotton to offer better alternatives, but completely pure Egyptian cotton outshines this blend. Silks that can be washed give an opulent feel in the beginning. However, when subjected to repeat washing, its effective life shortened considerably and the washing machine too can damage the fine arrangement of fibres.

Incorrect laundering or exposing to higher temperatures can ruin washable silks. Silk also is vulnerable to stain causing agents and can easily get torn off if caught in the machine. Duvet covers made of silk is not recommended for active use on day to day basis. Egyptian cotton is the best fibre which offers longevity, durability and softness.
The thread count, fibre type and content play a decisive role in choosing duvet cover that optimally fits in your requirement.
